By now, most of the Gmail users would've enabled the tabbed inbox configuration.
For emails, I conceived of a somewhat similar (though technically and practically I must admit, it could be tougher) arrangement quite a few years (more than 6 years) back. We would all agree, Gmail team has done this job beautifully though it's 2013 :).

Sometimes our ideas are either ahead of time or they do not get enough legs to see them through. It hits us when the same idea is brought forward by someone else and made a grand success.

Kunal, thank you for going through the post and the octamail document. I had a glimpse of an opportunity back then to implement that. But the powers that be typically see younger chaps as cocky :). Let's see what we can do with Cockpit. Awareness-building is a steep climb from where I am.
